Starting Poetry notebook

September 14, 2007

I finally decided on a topic for my poetry notebook. I was going to do the beat generation, but I’d also like to include some of my own favorite authors. So bohemians in general.

Poets I want to include:
* Jack Kerouac
* Allen Ginsburg
* William S. Burroughs
* Dylan Thomas
* Robert Desnos
* Charles Bukowski
* Ernest Hemingway
* Ezra Pound
* Jim Morrison
* Hermann Hesse
* Zen poets

This subject is ideal because it is original, broad enough for me to include several authors I’m interested in, and has many obvious (viable) options for artwork.

Also: In my search I found this awesome page about surrealist poetry.

Update: I finished my poetry notebook and it was a smashing success.

Back to School!

I’m finally finished with all my summer assignments and can get back to reading what I want to read! What a novel idea!

Summer Reading

July 30, 2007

Here are the books I’ll be reading for the AP English summer assignment. Out of the titles given, I selected the shortest, yet presumably most interesting, while trying to keep a nice variety. (Strike-through means I finished it.)
* Wuthering Heights
* The Invisible Man
* The Cherry Orchard
* No Exit
* The Sound of Waves
* A Man of the People

Summer Plans

May 6, 2007

I hope I actually stick to these, since summer plans have generally been for me like new year’s resolutions. Okay, my main goals are to work, to take Spanish 2, to get service learning hours, and possibly to start driving lessons.

I want to work at either the Hollywood Bowl or at this Kaiser Permanente youth employment program I heard about in which I’d apparently get to work in a lab. It would be really nice if could do both, though.

I’m going to take Spanish 2 at LAVC if I can get high school credits for it so that I’ll have three years of Spanish by the time I graduate.

For service learning I just heard about the Burbank Parks counselor-in-training program. I really need to get more hours (shooting for 100+) and working at a summer camp seems like it will be fun.

My dad said he wants to start teaching me to drive, so I guess I’ll do that too. When I have enough experience I should be able to take a bit of official behind-the-wheel training and get my license.
